The 2010 EMP Sound Off Finals went down over the weekend. All of the bands that made it into the finals were AMAZING!

Hooves & Beak (aka Whitney Flinn) was refreshing and unique with her harp and lyrics…. I may have a soft spot for “one-man bands” that sound incredible such as this. Whitney is a win in my book.
Seacats blew me away with all of the super young talent in the band. Kudos!
Great Waves took home first place, more on them in a sec.
Candysound was probably my favorite from the bunch… The duo fit perfectly right in my little niche of music I’d listen to

As you can tell in the photo below, the band Great Waves was thrilled to be given the title of the 2010 EMP Sound Off Winners!

Sound Off Finals Winners

Congrats!

Lots of big exciting news is coming up involving the gang, but for now check out their MySpace (does anyone use this other than bands now?) and drop em a line.

Check out some of the awesome pics I took at the show in our gallery!

I had to wear earplugs for their set due to all of the screaming fans,

The Lonely Forest played their fourth show of their 15 show tour with the Scottish band We Were Promised Jetpacks at Neumos on Tuesday night. If you were lucky enough to get in to this shoulder to shoulder sardine-packed room to catch these guys play you heard some incredible new music that probably gave you a good tingly feeling on the inside… you know, where is counts. The guys were rad as always and kept rocking their catchy little melodies all night – even though it seemed John broke the keyboard at one point, but that would be nothing new for these guys. Epic.

I’ve seen the band maybe half a dozen times now and each time is an experience. From keyboards flying to John flailing all over the floor to everyone howling and to the more mellow intimate shows where the music really pulls you in, TLF delivers. If you’ve never been to a TLF show before, make like a tree and check out the forest! (horrible horrible attempt at a bad joke, I know!) Oh hey, between you and me, there’s rumors of another show coming up soon too, so you’d better get in on this early so you can see them. And by soon, I mean… well.. soon! Details on the way, promise!

After the show last night, the band and I chatted for a few about being on the road and what is to come when they’re back in town. Once TLF is done touring in mid-March they’ll be headed into the studio with Chris Walla to work on their fourth album. Crazy, right?? Tony, TLF’s Guitarist, said that he was a fan of Death Cab For Cutie and working with Walla was incredible. After hearing the guys play some new songs last night TLF’s new album is definitely something to look forward to in the near future. Can I pre-order something that hasn’t been recorded yet? The band has so much potential and their music really is THAT good! I highly recommend checking out their latest album, We Sing The Body Electric! (it’s pretty awesome), or some of my fav tracks from their other albums “Lessons In Miscommunication” “Nuclear Winter” or “God Is Dead”. Or heck, just get their music from iTunes right now and crank it up!

The Lonely Forest after their show at Neumos:

Left to Right: Tony Ruland (guitar) – John Van Deusen (vocals/piano/guitar) – Braydn Krueger (drums) – Eric Sturgeon (bass)

Last time I signed into my email account for The End, I had an e-mail reminding me to change my password and an e-mail telling me to go to a specific site if I ever forgot my password… Well, I changed my password but didn’t bookmark or save the reset-password site. And guess what happened… Yup! I locked my account out.

So! If you need me, post comments here and I’ll get back to you once I unlock my e-mail.

So for my first Saturday with my new busted camera and busted lens, I decided to do a photo shoot! I couldn’t help but think during this shoot… “What if Carey (the model) was really a cyborg?” All I know is I’d be in trouble… quick!

What would you do?

So, I’ve been pretty dead lately with work and everything that goes on on the side… I guess they call that life? eh.

If you know me, you know I’m into photography and video stuff here and there. I used to have a Nikon D80 and I was actually quite pleased with it. That is, until I needed to step things up and take my photography more seriously. So, last week I got my tax monies and got me a D700 with a 50mm 1.4G to replace my 50mm 1.8D. Awesome, right?!?!!?

Well, I got my D700 and new lens today and the camera has a dead pixel in the screen and the new 50mm doesn’t autofocus properly… I by doesn’t autofocus properly, I mean the lens makes a grinding noise and when it finally thinks it has the focus, it’s off by a couple inches to ten feet or so. :[ Time for the exchange process now. :[

But hey! Once I get my new gear up and functional, expect to see me at shows and all of our End Events capturing all of the awesome happs. I’m curious though, what do you want to see me start posting here from our End events? Bands? Shenanigans? GregR’s dog, Chowder? Red’s awesome car? A time lapse of the beard on Harms’s face? Lemme know!

I just finished eating chicken nuggets with salsa instead of ketchup. Not because I ran out of ketchup, but because I ran out of chips for the bowl of salsa. I suppose I could have just as easily went to the store.

I think this tops what I did about a month ago… Top Ramen in my Extreme Gulp cup instead of a bowl because the dishes were dirty.

This is normal… right?

So what’s everyone doing for this Seattle NYE?

I’ve been debating between going out somewhere, going to a friends, staying home, or driving down to Portland for a New Years Evil party.

What’s going on in Seattle? I really don’t know!!

I really wish Seattle had something like Portland’s NYEvil or something like Australia’s Celebrity Zombies.

GregR and I kinda went to go see Avatar in 3D kind of on an impulse…

I don’t claim to be a critic, but here’s a little input from me anyways. :]
