DFA Records, founded by James Murphy (The man behind dance juggernaut LCD Soundsystem) and Tim Goldsworthy (1/2 of Mo’ Wax, legendary UK label perhaps most widely known for their release of co-founder James Lavelle’s project UNKLE, as well as Bape founder Nigo’s release “Ape Sounds”) are doing it right. For the past 3 weeks they’ve been cleaning out their warehouse (likely not James personally, but I’m sure everyone else who works there is probably pretty cool too) and posting OOP and White label vinyl for sale (and on sale at that!) through their online store.

With rarities from Holy Ghost, Hot Chip, The Rapture, and more, to some down right super cool shit from LCD (I’m a sucker, so far they’ve got me all 3 weeks in a row) and they’re not even done yet! If you’re a fan of dance/electro/humor (it’s tough to tell but etched into my copy of “Yeah” up above it reads “not as good as Loosing My Edge” …yes, with 2 O’s) certainly check out the DFA roster and stay tuned for their updates via Facebook and Twitter cuz this stuff is going quick! NOT TO MENTION… they throw in all sorts of goodies with your purchase too! My first order came with 2 promo flats for LCD, a Booji Boy High 12″, a Planningtorock full length promo CD, and a thank you note! It’s like Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza in a box. Do the right thing and add some cool points to your record collection.

Check out what’s up for grabs now, here.

When we found out the latest Gorillaz project was a collaboration between James Murphy (the man behind the indie revered LCD Soundsystem) and Andre 3000 (the guy that wrote “Hey Ya”… also in Outkast, nbd) we collectively pooped our pants imagining what kind of musical extravagance came to fruition during these super secret Converse sponsored sessions (apparently not all corporations are evil) The full track drops on the 23rd of this month but for now you can get a taste in the form of some behind the scenes footage for the forthcoming video as well as hear a full 30 seconds of the track streaming below!

Neon Indian’s Era Extrana was one of the best records of 2011. Seeing a shedding of the lo-fi bedroom sound and an enormous growth into this post apocalyptic pop sound, there is little to hate in the record. Take that up another watch when you match the lush synth tracks with a video from none other than animation genius’s Adult Swim and you have the sort of product you can only watch with the lights off. So without further ado… flip that switch and enjoy below

When Gorillaz tweeted the above picture, along with the announcement of a new track to be released in tandem with their line for Converse shoes, our immediate thoughts were those silhouettes looked an awful lot like Andre 3000 and Erykah Badu. Things became slightly confusing however when Converse Denmark accidentally leaked the below image revealing a gorilla in a kimono and a masked crazy man. Well after some digging and a little tip from our buddy Rocko, we now have images that in fact PROVE, that our hypothesis was correct…

The following comes from a recent photo shoot with Dungeon Family (Outkast’s original label) the masked man is “Mr. X” aka none other than Andre himself (confirmation numbero uno)

While the following photo comes from the internets it’s clearly a very afro-y Erykah in a kimono…which seems fair to assume is enough to tie these photos together at this point I think. AND given the hashtag from the leaked Denmark photo, it’s likely that the track is called “Do Ya Thing”. All the details to be revealed this thursday, but until then…feel free to act more informed than the average…gorilla.

Few things rival the power, reach, and overall cultural impact that the Chemical Brothers have had on modern music (essentially they pioneered it along with the likes of Daft Punk and The Prodigy to bring block rockin beats into households world wide via stereo’s and television commercials) and after years of earth destroying live sets, they’ve released their first concert film entitled “Don’t Think” and it’s about to hit theaters for one night only so you can get your dance on (seriously, at the LA premier everyone just left their seats, got down in front of the screen and started dancing, sounds like a crazy awesome time). While it’s not quite the same as seeing the duo live, it will be just as loud, just as intense, and being that they won’t be back for….well they haven’t even been in Seattle since the early 2000’s so who knows when really, it’s probably the closest you’ll get to the guys for some time. All showings are at 7:30pm this wednesday and you can check out a list of local theaters showing the program here. I can tell you if i wasn’t stuck in my little radiobox on top of this building I’d definitely join you, check out the trailer below and don’t miss out!

When you start a New Year it seems like resolutions are on everybody’s mind, looking forward, improving from the last year. However for me, there are still a few lingering regrets, one of which was missing Arcade Fire at ACL this past summer (really, I regret missing that whole fest) Thankfully through the power of the internet and foresight of the long running PBS series “Live From Austin City Limits” we can all enjoy the bands set without having to throw down for a plane ticket, hotel room etc. Though if you can afford it I highly recommend making it down there someday, in a number of words, its a good time. Check out the set below…

Watch Arcade Fire on PBS. See more from Austin City Limits.

In anticipation of the announced today forthcoming collab between The Flaming lips and Bon Iver (the Flips are hard at work on a record made up entirely of collaborations, with artists signed on already including Death Cab, Ghostland Observatory, Neon Indian and singer Wayne Coyne says he hopes to get Erykah Badu and Ke$ha on board as well) I’ve created what I consider a great attempt at guessing what said collab might sound like. Below you’ll find songs from each artist, go ahead and just hit play on both at the same time, turn up the speakers and then…yeah….yup..mmhmm probably close to what this insanity is going to sound like. Enjoy

Once upon a time there was a magical band called LCD Soundsystem who brought disco to the 00’s and Daft Punk to the rock kids. However as all good bands do, their time came and went (though some would argue too soon) and main man, James Murphy decided it was time to call it a day, but not before one final massive show at NYC’s Madison Square Garden. Shut Up and Play The Hits chronicles the days and hours before the final goodbye down to the last note played and as someone who had a ticket in hand to the show, and got bumped off their flight, I can tell you the trailer genuinely brings tears to my eyes (and makes me wish I was Marty McFly) feel my pain by checking out below…
