Today is a big day for Soundgarden fans.
First, the band officially took the stage for their triumphant return Lollapalooza in Chicago’s Grant Park (hear a backstage interview below).
Now, the first new music from the guys in over a decade.
Recorded during the Badmotorfinger sessions and appearing on the forthcoming “Telephantasm” retrospective (out September 28th) here’s the world premiere of the brand new track “Black Rain”.
***Soundgarden’s management/label have asked us to stop streaming the track. The only other place we could find an active stream was over at stereogum, so you can try there.
The guys also chatted about everything that is happening with the 2010 reunion from their hotel in Chicago.

Did anyone else notice that the “Cry on, Black rain” sounded like the Cornell of today? I think I read somewhere that this was an incomplete track out of the Badmotorfinger sessions (not a complete outtake)- So he mustve added that entire section of the song in the last 6 months, as opposed to twenty years ago. He still sounds great! Just different I guess. It’s an interesting contrast.

Well , not being from the USA and not having the chance to experience this first hand , I rather hoped for a bit more than a fan video and Chris talking for a few seconds . Being loyal fans for so long its easy for some of us to feel a bit ripped off !! REPORT SAYS :- COULD DO BETTER .

Cool tune, reminds me a little of \Cold Bitch\ and \New Damage.\ I thought I was on top of all things Soundgarden, but I had never heard of this tune until a few days ago. I wonder what Seth Perlman thinks of it …

Its an okay song. Some think it could have been an earlier arrangement of “Black Days” like the other bluesy/doomy demo version that came out as a b-side in 1995. Music has to be Cornell. Its got the basic structure of something that he would write. The additional touches are all Motorfinger-era. Ah, what could have been if they kept the same production techniques on Superunknown instead of veering away from it since the success of “Outshined” scared them a bit. They did something different.
