Not an excuse for that annoying back-up-noise that accompanies any large truck driving in reverse, no. World Backup Day 2011 is the precursor to that terrible situation where on April Fools day, some jackass friend of yours installs something “hilarious” on your computer and you lose all your important data: pics, vids… adult material.

WorldBackupDay.net if you need more info!

As an avid Rubik’s cubist… cuber… hmm… as someone who enjoys solving a Rubik’s Cube, it’s awesome to know that western Washington is home to one of the best cubists in the world – Issaquah’s Renton’s Kevin Hays. Poor Kevin, he was up in Vancouver BC competing for the world record of solving a 6×6x6 cube and met this outcome:

My friend Nick informed me that Kevin was just 4 turns away from beating the world record when his cube locked up and spilled to the table. It seems reasonable that he got that angry, right? Poor Kevin :(

UPDATE: It was brought to my attention that Kevin is from Renton.

Folowing in the footsteps of William Shatner (amongst numerous other artists) My Chemical Romance has done a version of Pulp’s “Common People”

While visiting Fearne Cotton’s show on UK radio the band cranked out this very respectable version of the Pulp tune

Quick reminder:

Pulp is back together and touring in 2011.
Nothing in NW yet…hopefully soon

William Shatner (along w Ben Folds & Joe Jackson) knocked it out of the park with this version

and of  course…the original

The Strokes continue to impress as the NYC band makes the late night rounds

SIDE NOTE: How cool is it that The Strokes play different songs from “Angeles” at all these late night gigs.  Nothing more boring than a band playing the SAME song over and over.  Reason #23432563425 The Strokes are the best band of the last 10 years

Here they are doing “You’re So Right” from Fallon last night
Reason #23432563426 they’re the best band of the last 10 years

Another new Foo’s song

Slowly but surely we are getting more tracks from new the Foo Fighters record ‘Wasting Light”

Live versions of the entire record have been floating around for weeks but now we are starting hear what the studio recordings sound like.

All that talk about “recording in a garage” and “recording on tape”…did that actually make a difference or mean anything.

Yes and Yes.

Yesterday we snagged the killer “Bridge Burning”

and today we found a CD quality version of the track “Arlandria”

Despite the Arcade Fire’s massive success over the last couple of years garnering well deserved fame, accolades and assumed fortune, the band has been very good about NOT forgetting where they come from.

As VERY active vocal and financial supporters of Haiti relief (singer Régine Chassagne has ties to the country) the band has raised in excess of $1 million dollars to help the country get back on it’s feet.

A benefit show in Haiti seemed liked the perfect idea in theory, however, considering the state that the country’s infastructure is in after the devastating quake, not the best idea in practice.

That didn’t stop the band from performing at a surprise appearance on Tuesday at Port-au-Prince’s Hotel Oloffson. It was a set that saw the band do a number of covers (Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Who’ll Stop The Rain,” and the Rolling Stones’ “The Last Time.”) as well as songs from their own catalog.

This performance (and maybe others) are being filmed for a DVD set to come out later in 2011.

Here’s video from this special night:

“Haiti”

“Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”

“The Last Time” (Rolling Stones Cover)

Setlist from the show

Who’ll Stop The Rain
Keep The Car Running
The Last Time
Crucified Again
Ocean Of Noise
The Tide Is High
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)
Neighbourhood #3 (Power Out)
Rebellion (Lies)
Haiti
Wake Up

* thx to sean girvan’s prep service

However, I saw this pic moments after this video….and it definitely made the aforementioned story more appetizing and understandable. I’d sit on a cake couch for 2 years no doubt.
